Survey & General update…

Firstly I would like to thank everyone who took the time to fill out the Golf Members survey over the past few weeks, your feedback is invaluable to us. As you can imagine we have a lot of data to get through but I wanted to address two of the more frequent answers/comments that we have noticed so far.

Bunkers-

I'm sure it comes as little surprise that the main concern when it comes to the golf course is the quality of our bunkers. This is something we are very aware of and I'm pleased to say with the financial backing of The Simmons we have now put in place a 1,3 and 5 year plan to improve the playing and maintenance issues we have with the bunkers. Simon is preparing the plan over the coming weeks and once available he will post this on the course information board.

Hotel Rooms-

The work continues on the new hotel rooms but it seems there are many of you with some reservations as to how this is going to affect the Golf Members. Please let me assure you that the main purpose of creating these rooms is certainly not so we can start taking more and more golf breaks. It is not to say that these rooms will never be used for this purpose but the priority of looking after our members will not change. The main purpose for the hotel rooms will be to add another string to our bow with regards to the Spa, weddings & events as well as midweek commercial bookings. Initially there will be seven rooms available. We still do not have an exact date as to when the rooms will be opening but work is coming along nicely and we anticipate being open around spring time. Lastly, something else that was mentioned frequently was the concern that during the winter many golfers choose only to play 9 holes creating a lot of wear on the front 9 holes. This is something that has been talked about over recent years and we have decided for the months of January & February to swap the nines around to try and even out the wear of the course during the wetter months. Please note that the winter league competitions are qualifiers for handicap as long as long as the full course is being played. So for any members that are struggling to keep their handicap active and need a qualifier then the winter league is a great opportunity. In order to qualify for eligibility for Club Knock Outs and major competitions you do need to have played in 3 club competitions in the previous year.

Seniors and Ladies Mixed

The season finale for the mixed competitions is the 9 hole Christmas comp. event with Christmas Lunch and presentations to be held on Tuesday 8th December; sheets are up on both boards and places are already filling up nicely.

Seniors Winter Competitions

The first Winter competition took place on Monday 16th Nov.and was a 3 ball waltz. There were 58 competitors on a reasonable November day and those who had been following the tips from Len and his team on Strictly Come Dancing, danced their way into the following positions

1st J Newton, T Burrows B Woodward - 41 pts - handicap cut by 2 shots
2nd C Ball, R Brown, H Beddow - 37 pts - handicap cut by 1 shot
3rd D Cartridge S Fountain R Grice - 36 pts ( on countback)

Prize money has been placed on their cards, all entry fees are paid out for the winter competitions.

Seniors Presentation Lunch

This is to be held on Monday 23rd November following a 9 hole Texas scramble. Tee off at 8.30 am. The meal is paid for out of Seniors funds and there are still 3 places available for the Texas scramble
