Greetings from Dave
Solheim Cup
Sorry can sometimes be the hardest word to say, but not for Suzanne Pettersen who used it four times in her lengthy apology to the American team regarding a dispute that broke out in the Solheim Cup competition on Sunday morning in Germany between Europe and the U.S.A.
Pettersen who is our highest ranked female golfer at No.8 in the world sparked controversy during the Solheim Cup after refusing to concede a putt on the 17th hole of the final fourballs match. American Alison Lee missed a putt for birdie and then scooped the ball up with her putter believing Suzanne and Charley Hull their opponents, who had started walking towards the 18th tee, had conceded the putt.
Pettersen appealed to the match referee saying she hadn't conceded the putt because it was more than three feet. The claim drew widespread criticism but under the rules the hole was awarded to Europe. This showed very bad sportsmanship in a game that is known for high etiquette and good sportsmanship. It appears that after Europe had lost the Solheim Cup that Suzanne reflected back on her actions and was disappointed and truly sad.
Below are a few words from Pettersen: "I've never felt more gutted and truly sad about what went down Sunday on the 17th at the Solheim Cup," "I am so sorry for not thinking about the bigger picture in the heat of the battle and competition. I was trying my hardest for my team and put the single match and the point that could be earned ahead of sportsmanship and the game of golf itself!
So in the end it was a disappointing battle for Europe with a 10-6 lead at one stage and then to get hammered in the singles and lose the Solheim Cup and the shocking seens on the 17th green before the singles started.
I guess KARMA is real after all.

Vets North Staffs League
The vets team travelled to Barlaston Golf Club on Thursday 17th September to face Brookfield 'A'. This was the playoff match held on a neutral venue to decide who would top Div. 1, after both teams had finished with the same number of points and number of wins. The weather was good although the course was showing signs of its muddy fairways history. The team, however, showed great composure and grit to win the match by 4 games to 2 with a special report of a long; difficult 4ft 11" put being holed by one of our experts securing one of the vital wins on the 18th hole. This really was a terrific result following last season's victory in topping Div. 2 in our first year, and not forgetting that this year we also reached the final of the Memorial Trophy. These results really do put The Chase Golf Club firmly in the spotlight and highlight the strength in depth of our senior players related to other Senior Teams of North Staffordshire.
Seniors Interclub Match
As the season starts to draw to a close the seniors, on Thursday 24th, entertained a strong Calderfields side rumoured to have lost only 1 match all season, The Chase side was a mixture of regulars, battle weary vets players together with a hint of new blood. An excellent contest ensued and although the size of handicaps was discussed afterwards with some fervour, the final result was an honourable tie of 4 games all. A solid result.
Forthcoming Competitions:
Thursday 24th Seniors away to Barlaston
Monday 28th Seniors away to Izaak Walton
