Greetings from Matt Southwell
The Chase Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Pro Am

Our Midland PGA Pro Am took place last Friday for the 6th year running with 38 teams playing. The day kicked off early with me teeing off at 8.00am with my 3 amateur partners. I was then followed by Dan and his team and this continued with 10 minute intervals throughout the day until 14.30pm with Tom teeing off last. The day ran very smoothly with lots going on everywhere in the club.

The presentation took place at 8.30pm in which lots of people stayed for. Kat took the money off me and the lads shooting a very good score of two under par. Matthew Cort and Daniel Wood won the pro's individual competition on the day both shooting 5 under par. Dan said in his speech afterwards that it's the best he has ever seen the golf course and that the greens were one of the best surfaces he has played on this year! In fact throughout the day the comments from other professionals and the visiting amateur players had lots of very positive comments about the whole golf club.

The winners of the team event on the day was won by professional Brian Rimmer and his 3 sons Oliver, Charlie and Jack who are all members of the golf club. This was the first time the Rimmer brothers have played in a competition with their dad. Brian said it was a proud moment them just playing with him never mind winning it! I would like to thank everyone that played and supported the event and if you didn't play then make sure you get a team in next year as it's a great day of golf and banter.

Junior news

The junior section has gone from strength to strength this summer and I think you would all agree that it's a breath of fresh air seeing all the junior dotting around the club. We now have a total of 42 junior members with a lot of those very active playing within the junior section and with friends and family.

Within the past couple of weeks we have had a few new additions to the section therefore I have arranged a junior open afternoon to meet some of the juniors, their parents and potential new members. This will take place on Sunday 25th October at 1pm. There will be free coaching and competitions with prizes to be won. It will be open to all members and non-members. Please let Katrina Know if you would like to come along.

Coaching news

Short game clinic

The short game may be the most overlooked and misunderstood part of the game for most players. As a part of a defined road map to become an advanced, well-rounded player, the short game can be the most important step in the process.

The short game can form the foundation for greatness, or if neglected, it can mean we will never reach our full potential.

Average golfers don't realise how important this part of the game can be nor how much it can reduce your scores. To maximise your potential why don't you come along to one of the short game clinic we have coming up and see how many shots you can knock off your scores.

Sunday 5th October 12.30 - 3.30pm
Tuesday 6th October 10.30am - 1.30pm
3 hour short game camp for just £15 per person

Senior section

North Staffs Vets League

The vet's team hosted Wychwood Park at home on Thursday 3rd September and despite the weather providing an excellent golfing day the team recorded a defeat by 7 points to 5. This left the team in the position of a tie for first place with Brookfield A and we now have to find a neutral ground for a play off or send 6 players to Brookfield and host 6 from Brookfield at the Chase, all before 5th October as this is the end of season date. Negotiations are on-going.

Seniors Open

The Seniors Captain chose an excellent day to play the Seniors Open with the course in superb condition and the weather being like in the Med.
