Greetings from Dave
What a start it was for Paul Broadhurst on the European Seniors Tour. Last Friday he played behind me and Matt in the Brocton Hall Pro Am and finished tied second with 66 winning him £500. He then shot off down to Archifield Links in Scotland to make his seniors tour debut and won in a playoff winning £53,000!!
He defeated Gordon Manson on the second hole of a play-off to join an exclusive club of players who have won on their European Senior Tour debut. Broady only celebrated his 50th birthday 15 days ago. He mentioned in his interview after he won.
"I must have had about 50 people tell me they were going to back me in my first event. I told them not to be daft because playing the Senior Tour is a lot different to playing in the Midland region, but at least I didn't let them down.
Paul would normally play in our Midland PGA pro-am but he will be competing in his 2nd tour event at Woburn this weekend. You can understand him wanting to play there and competing for £50,000 rather than £700!
The Captain v Vice Captain match play challenge ended in an honourable draw (five and a half points each), with most of the games being decided on the 17th and 18th holes. Individual prizes went to Liam Bills (longest drive on second hole), Aaron Saunders (nearest pin on eleventh), Mark Simmons (nearest pin in two on sixteen). Biggest winning margin prize went to Mark Abella and Bob Garside.
Spaces are still available to join the Captains Fun Away Day to Macclesfield Golf Club on Friday 11th September. Bacon bap & coffee, 18 holes on a tricky parkland course and a 2 course meal only £30 including prizes. Tee times from 09.00 until 09.30. Contact the Captain or the Pro shop if you are interested, everybody welcome.
The Chase junior team had a busy weekend, playing Leek golf club away, finishing with a very close 3:2 defeat, with Liam Bills and Sam Ruston winning the two top matches, but unfortunately it was not to be as it all came down to the last match on the 18th green, Kieran McCarthy had a put to half the match but left the putt agonisingly over the hole, a great effort from the lads but the win they have deserved all season finally came in Sundays away match at Onneley golf club, Winners on the day were once again Sam Ruston, Jack Rimmer and Chris McCarthy, Tom Beasley added a half point to give the Chase a 3 1/2 to 1 1/2 victory, a really good battling performance from the lads, Jack Bywater played his first match as a reserve and had a very good 6 and 5 victory, Team manager Lee Bills is very pleased with the teams effort and performance throughout the season and is hopeful of more wins next season with some healthy competition for places, well done boys.

Conditions were warm and windy, punctuated by a very heavy downpour, and the team produced a strong performance, recording a 9 points to 3 victory.
