Greetings from Matt Southwell | The Chase Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional |
Professionals Prize - Sunday 23rd August
We had 90 members battling it out on Sunday in mixed weather conditions all trying to become the Professional's Prize champion.
Only six players managed to break their handicap with the standard scratch jumping up to 73. The winner of the day was David Wood with a great score of nett 68 playing off a 17 handicap. The prize for first place was a team in the 2016 Chase Midland PGA Pro Am normally costing £150! In second place was Brian Cheshire with a score of 69 winning a Cleveland lob wedge.
Third was single figure player Steve Conroy winning a dozen TaylorMade golf balls and a club gapping session on our GC2 simulator. Best gross was won by Graham Donohoe with a fabulous gross score of 73 (+1) which reduces his handicap to 2 after trying for many years.
Well done GMac! There were only 3 two's scored on the day with each two worth £29.00! I would like to say a big thankyou from the professional team to everyone that played on the day.

Seniors Interclub Matches
The Seniors were away to Dartmouth on Thursday 20th and, although the current Captain and Vice-Captain were unavailable, hopes were high for a good result. Golf however is a fickle game and although 5 of the 6 games were very close the sixth game recorded an astounding 8 to 6 defeat. against perhaps our most favoured pair. The Data Protection Act prevents the naming of the pair, but suffices it to say they have both held office in the Seniors Section. Final result was a tie with 2 wins 2halves and 2 defeats.
Senior Captains Away Day - No 2
Druids Heath was the venue for the second of the Captains away days and what a splendid choice it was. The group enjoyed a lunch time snack a great round of afternoon golf and an excellent 2 course meal afterwards. One is hesitant to name the overall winner who decimated the course and finished with a 6 point advantage over second place. Fortunately our Congu representative was present to ensure appropriate future handicap adjustments took place. The result was: Winner Mike Whitehouse 41 points Runner Up Alan Perry 35 points Steve Fountain and Ivan Poole won prizes for the only 2's recorded.

Members are reminded that if they play in a qualifying competition, home or away, they are responsible for adjusting their own handicap if they are intending to play in another competition before the score has been processed by the handicapping committee and they have played better than their handicap.
This is done by taking the difference between their score and the standard scratch, multiplying this by the adjustment factor for their playing handicap category and deducting the resultant number from their exact handicap.
If anyone is unsure about this or is unaware of their adjustment factor please ask one of the handicap committee or professional staff who will be happy to help. Handicap Committee

How to improve your holing out |
| One of the quickest ways to save strokes is to equip yourself with a golf GPS. Better course management will help you keep double bogeys off the card - so check out our GolfBuddy range in store, which features handheld, laser and wearable devices, all of which will help you to lower your scores. |
| For some of us, all we want to make the game easier is more distance, especially from iron to iron. In this video we discuss Wilson's D200 irons, clubs that certainly tick the distance box. If you are thinking about new irons and distance is a big factor for you, ask in store about the D200's... |
