Australian Jason Day won his first major title with a record score of 20 under par at the US PGA Championship. Day shot a closing round 67 at Whistling Straits to record the lowest total at one of golf's four majors. The world number five saw off a chasing pack that included Masters and US Open champion Jordan Speith, who finished three shots back in second place. Jordan finishing second has made him world number 1 for the first time in his career overtaking Rory McIlroy. Branden Grace was third on 15 under and Justin Rose finishing a respectable fourth on 14 under. Rory shot a final round 69 to end his first tournament back from an ankle injury at nine under par.
I think everyone would agree that the golf course was outstanding and that when the Ryder Cup is held there in five year's time it will be a great contest between the two teams on an a very interesting course. Rory showed great sportsmanship after play on Sunday with him posting a very nice tweet on twitter for his millions of followers to see.
It's now a long wait until the Masters at Augusta National in April but when it does arrive it sure is set to be a great year of golf with so many great, exciting, young, talented players around all with a major championship in their sights.
The Performance Centre will be stocking two new exciting brands in the near future. One of the brands we have stocked in the past but not for a couple of years. The other brand has never been stocked at The Chase and some of you reading may never have even heard of it.
Under Armour
Under Armour has really taken off in golf with world number 1 Jordan Spieth wearing it in every tournament he plays in. They are most famous for their winter clothing products which include the skin-tight base layers that you wear underneath a shirt and jumper when it gets very cold. Their summer range of clothing was always very basic with not much choice and no real technology behind the garments. We placed our winter clothing drop earlier in the year which will be delivered in October. There will be mixture of winter trousers, base layers, mocks, shirts, wind tops, jackets, hats and gloves. The Under Armour rep Tom Bazely came to see us a couple of weeks ago to show us their spring/summer 2016 range and all I can say was I was very impressed. I am finalizing my order this week and it will be delivered March 2016. Please keep a look out for these two drops of clothing because I think you will like it a lot and it will be very reasonably priced.
Skechers
Skechers is the 2nd Largest Footwear Company in the USA. Founded in 1992 in 2015 it celebrates it's fairly youthful 23rd Birthday! Seniors and Ladies Mixed Competitions
The Friendship Trophy was played on Tuesday 18th and results were: Runners up on 37 points were former Senior Captain, Steve Fountain and current Ladies Captain, Gill Lees. Winners though with a fine round score of 38 was Barrie Woodward and Shirley Roycroft. The next Charity Mixed competition event is the Charity Cup on 15th September sheets for which will be on respective notice boards and will include a raffle for which donated prizes will be gratefully received (contact Julie Wright or Phil Wilson).

Last Friday Peter Jones decided to see if the brand new PING GMax Irons would benefit his game, the results were quite surprising. We saw a slight increase in swing speed due to a lighter shaft being used. This combined with the new technology in the PING GMax head, we saw a massive 18 YARD DISTANCE GAIN!!! This distance gain will enable Peter to hit a shorter club into the greens increasing his chance to get close to the hole and lower his scores!
