Wallasey G.C You probably haven't played Wallasey G.C or even heard but what a great golf course it is that is only 90 minutes north of the Chase. Myself, Dan and Matt took a trip up there on Monday to have a game as we were all off and the forecast looked good. The summer midweek greenfee for visitors is £80.00 which is good value but they will let you use your county card which reduces the greenfee to just £40.00!! We got on for free as we are PGA Professionals which allows us courtesy at most golf courses around the country. But I would of happily payed £40.00 to play as the golf course is amazing. It's an old fashioned links course right on the coast in Liverpool only 10 minutes down the road from Hoylake G.C (Royal Liverpool) where they played the Open in 2014. An interesting fact about Wallasey Golf Club is that it was where stableford was invented back in 1932. The club captain at the time Dr Frank Stableford devised the stableford scoring system and it has stood ever since. They were also one of the venues for final qualifying for the Open Championship back in 2006.
We let a heavy downpour of rain pass just before our 11.20 tee time. We had a competition between the 3 of us which was an 18 hole stableford format with bits included. Some of you reading may be thinking what are bits???
Birdies = £2
Nearest the pin on par 3's = £2
Par 5's in 2 = £2
Par 4'sin 1 = £2
Up and down from a bunker for par or better = £2
Winner of front nine = £3
Winner of back nine = 3
Winner overall = 3
So basically if you're having a bad game it can cost you a lot of money! Me and Matt tied in the end with him making an awesome birdie on the last and me 3 putting. It was a great day out and I would definitely recommend a visit.

Mixed day Out
On Monday 10th August six teams of four played a Mixed Away Day at Patsull Park in lovely conditions and surroundings. A venue to be recommended with a three course evening meal of salmon mousse, breast of chicken with peppercorn and brandy sauce, and Black Forest gateau followed by coffee and mints. Unfortunately the Senior Captain had not envisaged a tie and had only provided four prizes of bubbles and chocolates. On countback the winning team were Mike Whitehouse, Richard Davis, Keith Bayliss and Tony Archbold. I know!! No ladies? who pipped the team of Ian Lawley, Sue Pipe, Ivan Poole and Marlene Painter who all took home some of the spoils. A great day out.

On Friday 21st August between 5pm - 7pm we will be giving you the opportunity to try the brand new PING I-Iron & GMax Iron which has featured in the newsletter over the last few weeks.
In the GMax Iron PING have engineered their longest iron through COR-Eye Technology - increasing face flexing, producing faster ball speed across the face to generate incredible distance.
PING have made a big change and decided to use 431 stainless steel for the first time for a softer feel allowing workability and trajectory control with the right amount of forgiveness.
Lengths and lofts are optimized to increase distance with proper gapping, resulting in a clean players style iron with a high MOI.

There were several successes for the Ladies in July.
1st July - Stableford Qualifier
Div 1 - 40 pts - Eileen Hackett
Div 2 - 37 pts - Sally Dreaves
7th July - BMW Day
Shirley Roycroft went forward from the June completion to play in this event. She had a wonderful round and very disappointingly for her - and the ladies - missed out on winning by only one point. She posted a great score of 33pts. Well done Shirley - sorry we won't get a ride in a new car!!
8th July - Lady Captains Day Fun Stableford Competition 7/8 handicap
This proved to be an interesting fun day - a bit like a sandwich - a slice of dry bread; a very soggy filling; with a toasty end! Where did that sudden heavy rain come from? Refreshments at the half way house were superb and enjoyed by all, as were the on course treats. There was a delicious meal of fish and chips after the competition, at which successful players were presented with their awards, including those for the sponsored challenges placed on selected holes.
