Greetings from Dave,
Chase Chalice
The Chase Chalice took place on Sunday with 90 members battling out in terrible wet conditions to try and win a major championship. The first tee time started at 7.30am and the last time teed off at 12.50pm.
It rained for the whole day making conditions tough for the players with only 3 players playing to their handicap or better. The course stood up well to the constant rain with no stop of play.
The standard scratch only went up to 73 which was a surprise to many, as the talk in the clubhouse after play was that the standard scratch would be at least 74/75! There were 4 two's paying out a massive £21.00 per two.
The eventual winner was Steve Earll with a great score of nett 69 which has reduced his handicap by 2 shots! Well done Steve!
1st) Steve Earll 69

PING launched two brand new set of irons yesterday replacing the i25 iron and adding to their other ranges including the Karsten iron. Many people thought the i25 iron replacement would follow on and be the i30 but this is not the case it's called the i iron. For the first time the 431 stainless steel head has been implemented to the new i Iron, which provides a softer feel and has a higher strength- to - weight ratio allowing for more perimeter weighting to increase forgiveness and improve accuracy.
The progressive set design are engineered to provide trajectory control and the head sizes and offsets provide forgiveness.
Occasional off centre strikes are no longer a problem thanks to the Tungsten toe weight which has been added to the 4 to 7 Irons, this helps stabilise the club at impact for a higher MOI.
Read next week's newsletter to find out about their other brand new replacement set for the Karsten iron.

What are HYBRIDS? and the BENEFDITS of using them….?
In simple terms a hybrid is a cross between a fairway wood and an iron.
Their purpose? - Traditional long irons 1,2,3 or 4 iron are difficult to get airborne and hit consistently, most golfers struggle with them. Hybrid clubs replace the longer irons and make life on the course a little easier. They can be used off the fairway, from the rough or off the tee. They are great from the rough as traditional irons have more angular edges can snag in the grass twisting the club head off target! Hybrids resemble a wood with smoother edges which reduce drag through thick grass, producing more consistent shots.
What would my bag make-up look like with a hybrid? - You will replace the 3 and/or 4 iron with a hybrid club that fits in with your 5 iron distance. The rest of the bag will remain the same. It's your choice for how many hybrids you have in your bag but I would advise you to seek professional advice as everybody's needs are different. Remember we offer FREE Custom Fitting Service to all Chase members and visitors with a copy of this newsletter, so why don't you see how a hybrid club will benefit your golf game!!

Vets - North Staffs League
On Friday 24th, a very wet and windy day at the Chase, the Vets team entertained a resolute Greenway Hall team for a place in the final of the E/H/P Memorial Trophy. The Chase team with home advantage achieved a convincing 3-0 win, resulting in a place in the final. This is due to be played at Barlaston on the 9th September against Brookfield 'A'. This should be a tight game as the teams are very evenly matched as shown by their league results this season to date..
Senior Interclub Matches
What a difference home advantage makes as the interclub team stormed to a 6 games to 2 victory at home to Patshull Park on Thursday 23rd. The next match was away on the 28th at Calderfields and the result was reversed with a 6.5 to 1.5 defeat. It was good to note the last years Seniors captain is enjoying a run of good form using his broad shoulders to support his partners in both the Vets and interclub matches
Leading Edge Results
The wind proved a veritable hazard on Monday the 27th when LE no 8 took place, this being demonstrated by a CSS of 74. Yet again some of the familiar faces maintained their consistent form this season and were pictured in the results as follows
Div 1
1st Peter Caswell 74
2nd Keith Bayliss 74
3rd Steve Conroy 74
Div 2
1st Brian Haynes 76
2nd Matt Reidy 81
3rd David Walley 82
28 handicapper - Harold Beddow 84
External Success
Congratulations to Charles Dodd and Keith Bayliss who won the pairs open at Alsager on 28th with a fine score of 41 points. The reporter who provided the information spoke of Mr Dodd as follows: he played like a man possessed; a golfing master class; a rare combination of sheer power and fine touch; those who witnessed it were truly awe struck. He was, to be fair, ably assisted by Keith but as you might have guessed, he was the star of the show! (Even cardiac hill there did not deter him).
