What a week it was for 21 year old Jordan Spieth on winning his second major of the year. He is half way there to becoming the first person in golfing history to win all four majors in the same year. You have to feel for Dustin Johnson after having a 2 shot lead with 9 holes to go then having a 12ft eagle putt to win his first major and then end up 3 whacking it to lose by one. This is now 3 majors that Dustin has thrown away.

When G Mac won the US Open at Pebble beach he had a 3 shot lead going into the last round and ended up shooting 82. The other occasion was in the US PGA on the 72nd hole where he played out of the sand on the edge of the rough thinking it was natural land which was part of the course rather than a hazard. He grounded his club before playing the shot which cost him a 2 stroke penalty and the title.

As much bad luck as DJ has had in the last few majors I'm confident he will win a few in his career. The next major takes place from St Andrews for the Open Championship which is now set up to be an even more exciting week than normal as Rory and Jordan will be going head to head.

Mens Invitation Day - Saturday 20th June 2015

Well done to Darren Moulden and his guest on winning the Mens Invitation Day on Saturday with an outrageous score of 47 points!

They finished their last four holes 4 under gross! Second place was won by Steve Earl and is guest with 43 points.

In third place was the last pair in with 41 points, Oliver Higginson and his partner.

Congratulations the top three and thankyou to everyone who played.

LADIES GET INTO GOLF A new class is starting on Tuesday 14th July 7pm - 8pm. £20 per person for 4 weekly 1 hour lessons in a group. Including coaching, equipment and golf balls.

Our junior section has been very busy recently playing in competitions and having county coaching. Nearly all our juniors are now having coaching through the county schemes once a month which is fantastic. This works by the juniors having assessments with a small amount of coaching and the results and information are related back to their home coach. The feedback so far is that all the juniors are enjoying being a part of the squads and making new friends.

Millennium Shield

We held the junior millennium shield last week and had some fantastic scores. Congratulations to Zach Tallent on winning with a fantastic nett 63. Zach is someone to look out for this year, he has had an intense coaching programme with Katrina and Andy Caldwell (Golf Profiling) throughout the winter. His dedication and commitment to better himself is first class. At the start of the year Zach started the year off 28 he has now reduced his handicap to 16. Keep up the hard work!!!!

Tom Beasley was runner up in this competition; he was storming ahead with 2's on all the par 3's going out. Tom was 2 under gross coming down the 18th but unfortunately double bogeyed it to shoot level par, still a fantastic score. So close to the course record, but I'm sure how you are playing at the minute that course record 71 won't be 71 for much longer. Liam also matched the course record on this day with a gross 71! Well done boys!!!!

Tom has also been chosen to represent the county boys under 18s team this Sunday v's Derbyshire. It's a 36 hole match with foursomes in the morning and singles in the afternoon. He is unbeaten in the under 16s team, May this form continue into the under 18's. Liam Bills is also representing the county in this match, if anyone would like to go and support its being held at Izaak Walton on Sunday 28th June. Good Luck to Liam Bills playing in Midlands Boys Championship next week at Burghley Park.

Summer Junior Camps

The Chase Golf Camps promise to be incredible days of fun, excitement and achievement, with prizes and certificates to be won. A fun camp for boys and girls of all ages & abilities covering all aspects of the game Just £25 per day per child - 10am - 4pm.

Anyone playing an individual qualifying competition away at another club can you please make sure you get a copy of your scorecard and the standard scratch for the day. This is for backup purposes in case the score does not come through online to our handicap system.

The Captains Fun Day on the 1st August will be a Texas Scramble and the Captain will be putting the entry sheet up this Saturday morning. It is open to all categories of 5 and 7 day members.

The Captains Day out at Oswestry Golf Club last Friday was a great success with John Leishman winning by one point. The course and food was excellent and the modified scoring system allowed Mr Captain to make a 5/4 for 6 points on one of the double point holes!

The first ever Chase Summer Ball will be taking place on Saturday 1st August to tie in with the Captains Fun Day which will be taking place on the same day in the daytime. The ball costs £25.00 per ticket which includes a 3 course meal and fantastic music from Andy Beasley (Premier Frank Sinatra Tribute) Tickets are available to purchase from behind the bar.
