Rory McIlroy won his 11th PGA tour event on Sunday with a record score for the Wells Fargo Championship of 21 under par for the four rounds. The world number one won by seven shots from Webb Simpson and Patrick Rodgers. Rory's win was helped by a course record 61 on Saturday that included 11 birdies and seven pars! That 61 is his new lowest career round as a professional golfer. His form has just been incredible on the PGA tour with six top ten finishes in his last eight PGA starts. Rory said after his round that he will be flying over to London in his private jet to defend his BMW PGA Championship title at Wentworth this week.

Interclub Matches
Thursday, 14 May Patsull Park away. A lovely course, a strong team, extras drafted in, surely this was our day, but once again the weather gremlins intervened and most of the team had a hearty drenching before they limped across the finishing line. Another defeat to add to our disappointing start to the season by 4.5 to 3.5.
One glimmer of hope was that the interclub coordinator who has had a miserable "no win" start to his season recruited a leftie to carry him (or should I say as a playing partner) and this proved a magical combination running out easy winners. Well done to all in the difficult conditions.
Just a little bit of insider information for those at Perton who felt the meat allowance was a little sparse, one unnamed gentleman has confessed that his plate was swimming in meat!!
North Staffs Vets League
The Vets Team travelled to Wychwood Park on Wednesday 13th May. This proved to be a long and testing course and required members to be at their very best. Fortunately the weather was kind with plenty of sunshine and little or no wind and the team dug deep to record a very credible result, with 3 wins and 3 losses- a 6 points each draw. A thoroughly commendable away game result.
Leading Edge
Game number six had to be called off on Monday 18th due to persistent rain, those who paid will receive a credit against their next competition entry. A replacement LE will now be organised for August 24th, to be played alongside the competition for the over 70's and over 80's. Unfortunately we had 8 competitors who failed to show on the day and failed to let the coordinator know in advance of their intentions. As per our AGM proposal, written warning notices will be issued to these gentlemen
Winter Pairs Final
The delayed but eagerly awaited winter Pairs final was held on Tuesday, 19 May in suitably challenging weather conditions for a winter final. In a close fought match, which went to two extra holes,
Peter McDonald and
Phil Wilson beat
Alan Sheppard and
Ray Care. The two pairings are drawn together in the first round of the Senior Pairs Knockout so there is an early opportunity for
Alan and
Ray to get some sweet revenge!
Mixed competitions
The next competition is on Tuesday, 16 June and there is already a shortfall of men. Men we are in demand!!
