Greetings from Matt Southwell
The Chase Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Westwood TwitterCongratulations to world number 1 Rory McIlroy on winning the WGC Matchplay championship in San Francisco on Sunday.

On the way to winning the title Rory beat inform Paul Casey in the quarter finals on the 22nd hole. Rory missed a 5ft putt to win the match in the dark on Saturday night which meant play could not carry on due to darkness.

They came out early Sunday to finish the match. Rory had ringside tickets for the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight, hoping he would beat Casey 7&6 and could fly to Vegas to watch the flight then fly straight back to play his semi final match the following day.

He did give his 2 tickets away to Lee Westwood to save £200,000's worth of tickets going to waste!! Rory went on to beat big hitting Gary Woodland in the final 4&2.

Ladies/Mixed News

The mixed sight savers competition was played on Tuesday 7th May and was won by Mike Whitehouse and Pat Redpath with 35 points. A big thanks to everyone who played and also to Phil Wilson and Julie Wright for organising it. The days entrance fee and raffle money raised a total of £159 for Sightsavers.

The Chase ladies played in the county inter-team knockout (handicap 12-24) away at Stone G.C on Sunday 3rd May. The conditions were challenging and unfortunately the Chase lost. However the girls enjoyed the experience and will look forward to competing in the competition next year.

Seniors News - WC 28th April 2015 - North Staffs Vets League

In our second match we were at home to last years Division 1 winners, Alsager. On a rather cold and windy day, with three front line golfers withdrawing, new blood was called for, and this demonstrated the depth of talent available to the team. With 3 wins, 2 halves and one loss, the overall result was 8pts to 4pts. Very few of our visitor's had played The Chase before, but were full of praise for the course and the friendliness of all the staff and playing partners. The chips were good too. Our next match is away at Wychwood Park on Wednesday, 13 May, a very long and testing course. We hope that we can continue with our current vein of form.

Interclub Matches

Once again the interclub team came down to earth with a bump at Perton GC, losing 5.5 to 1.5. The only team to win was a pair made up of our favourite lefties with Charles and Wayne showing how the game should be played. Two home games next week should help steady the ship, perhaps we need to consider pairing up more of the lefties together?? Answers on a post card to FA.

Forthcoming Competitions:

  • Thursday 7th May - Seniors at home to Stafford Castle
  • Monday 11th May - Seniors at home to Lichfield
  • Wednesday 13th May - Vets away to Wychwood Park
  • Thursday 14th May - Seniors away to Patsull Park
