A note from your club professional - please tell your golfing friends!

This week I am asking you all to do me favour... It has been brought to my attention that some of your golfing friends do not receive the weekly newsletter and any broadcast messages.

If you all could ask your golfing friends if they have seen this week's newsletter - if they haven't can you ask them to send their name & email address to me via email - d.davis@thechasegolf.co.uk and I will be able to add them to our database.

During the winter we will be keeping you up to date with course conditions via our website (www.thechasegolf.co.uk) & our Facebook page (The Chase Professional Team). These will be updated as soon as a decision has been made by the green staff.

Change to the diary

Due to COVID, the Competition Winners Medal for the 2019 winners has been postponed to 21st November 2020, first tee time 10:00am. There will be a list of eligible players in The Professional Shop by the weekend. When we have the completed list we will also send out via email also.

The Competition Winners Medal for the 2020 season will be played in March 2021 date TBC.

Senior, Mixed & Ladies Section News

Leading Edge No. 6 - Rescheduled

Following the heavy rain encountered on Monday, 5th October 2020 the competition Leading Edge 6 was ‘abandoned’ and has now been re-scheduled for Monday 19th October 2020.

Where it has been practically possible I have kept the same three balls together with their original tee times.

It has been possible due to some members not being able to play on the re-scheduled date to make adjustments. I have also included the names of the members who had to cancel for the 5th October 2020, but would ask them to inform myself or the Golf Professional team so that adjustments can be made as appropriate.

Monies paid will automatically be carried forward to the rescheduled competition.

FROGS

Ladies due to the current circumstances with COVID we are still unable to put a notice up for FROGS for people to sign up too.

It has been suggested that anyone wishing to sign up to FROG’s on a Tuesday morning either goes into the Pro-Shop or makes contact via telephone to the pro shop. The Pro will then ask you which weeks you will be attending in the month, the sheet will be a rolling 4 weeks. This is to give the Pro and Lily a better idea of who will be attending and how many Tee times to allocate.

If in the unlikely event you are unable to attend FROGS following a booking, please advise the Pro shop as soon as you are able.

Useful Tips on the New World Handicap System

The handicap committee have displayed a notice board in the window at the front of The Professional Shop with very useful information on & flyers are available forr you to take away and have a read through at your leisure. There is a variety of information on the England Golf website should anyone wish to explore further.

Any Ladies who wish to have particular details explained to them please do not hesitate make contact with Therese Douglas either via telephone on 01785 840078 or via email on tnjdouglas1@gmail.com she will be only too pleased to assist. As it is not easy currently to see everyone at the club.

During October at some point players will notice when looking up their handicaps, online/How Did I Do, there will be another number shown alongside. This number will be their “Projected New Handicap Index” The final number will be shown early on the morning of the 2nd November 2020.

You may also remember seeing the letters H C P from England Golf, these three letters are being used to help players remember what they will need to do when going out to play a round of golf.

H Handicap Index - Check what it is before play

find your *Course Handicap for that day

World Handicap System - Information

Do I have to submit my score from every round of golf I play?

It will be mandatory to submit all singles competition scores, but you will have the option to submit social/recreational scores, as long as they are pre-registered and conform to the Rules of Handicapping and Rules of Golf. Each time a score is submitted, your handicap index will be re-calculated and updated for the next day of play, or soon after.

Will I use my handicap index or course handicap for competitions?

Competition entry (eligibility) will be based on your handicap index. The committee in charge of a competition may set eligibility conditions within their terms of the competition.

- A maximum handicap index limit for entry,

- A maximum course handicap limit.

- A maximum playing handicap.

Will there still be a competition standard scratch (CSS) score?

No, but a playing conditions calculation (PCC) will adjust score differentials when abnormal course conditions cause scores to be unusually high or low. This will be based on how players performed compared to their expected performance on that golf course.

How is the PCC calculated if only one player submits a score for handicap purposes?

The PCC can only take place if at least 8 acceptable scores have been submitted by players with a fully-developed handicap index of 36.0 or below. It is then applied retrospectively, after your score is posted, within the calculation of score differentials for all players.

- A 0.0 adjustment means the course played as expected,

- A -1.0 adjustment means the course played easier than normal,

-A + 1.0, +2.0 or +3.0 adjustment means the course played more difficult than normal.

But what happens if the weather is different in the morning and afternoon?

Only one PCC calculation will take place, so both sets of conditions will be taken into consideration, similar to the existing CSS calculation.

Will buffer zones and annual handicap reviews still exist?

Annual reviews will, but buffer zones will not.

If I hit two shots out of bounds and pick on that hole, will I still be able to submit my score?

Yes. When the format of play allows, you are encouraged to pick up once you have reached your maximum hole score for handicap purposes – which is a net double bogey.

What happens if I fail to complete a full nine-hole or 18-hole round because of fading light?

If you fail to play the minimum number of holes required, the score is disregarded. For a nine-hole round, all nine holes must be completed. For an 18-hole round, at least 10 holes

must be completed. If you play more than 10 holes but less than 14, you will be allocated nett par plus one stroke for the first hole not played and then nett par for the remaining holes. If you play 14 or more holes, you will be allocated nett par for the remaining holes.

If I submit a “no return” (NR) will I get a 0.1 increase?

There are no 0.1 increases under the WHS. A hole that is started but not completed will be recorded as a nett double bogey. Any holes not played will be allocated as a nett par, and added to your record.

What would happen if there is a delay in a score being returned, either due to tardiness or technical problems?

Scores should be entered before midnight on the same day. Any scores not entered before that time will still be acceptable, but will not be used as part of the PCC.

How will the WHS prevent handicap manipulation?

If a player fails to submit a pre-registered score, the handicap committee will investigate and take appropriate action. They will have the option to apply penalty scores, reset a handicap index, consider disciplinary action, or withdraw a handicap index for an agreed period.

More than three years later, his win at the PGA Tour’s Sanderson Farms Championship marks his first win since and prompted many similar headlines. Although, did you know both victories involved Sergio putting with his eyes shut at impact?

On the European Tour, Tommy Fleetwood looked to cap the return of the big names at the Scottish Open, a Rolex Series event, with a victory. But fellow Englishman Aaron Rai upset the odds to beat Fleetwood in a playoff that saw Tommy miss from a couple of feet at the first playoff hole.
