Greetings from Dave
The South African Open took place last week at Glendower G.C. Andrew Sullivan won after a melt down by Charl Schwartzel. Andy admitted he never expected to be in with a chance of winning his maiden European Tour title going into the final day.
The 28-year-old entered the final round at Glendower Golf Club seven shots behind leader Charl Schwartzel, but a final round of 67 combined with a two-over-par 74 from the South African saw the pair tied at the top of the leaderboard.
Sullivan then birdied the first hole of a sudden-death play-off to secure his first European Tour title and become the first Englishman to win the South African Open in 45 years. Charl said in his interview "I had one of my worst years last year and came back and found myself in a play-off. Unfortunately some of those old habits came flying back into the game today."
It just shows that even major champions have bad days and their old habits can creep back in to haunt them!

14th green update
I thought I would give you all an update on the current situation with regards to the 14th green. The drainage that was installed during last year’s reconstruction is not working as anticipated and consequently the green is remaining wet for long periods. We believe this is a result of the work being carried out during the extreme wet weather of last winter and the drains becoming capped with silt. As soon as conditions are favourable we will be carrying out work to rectify the situation and once it has dried sufficiently the green will be brought back into play.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

On Thursday 8th January we held a Night Golf event, for those who are not aware Night Golf is where you play golf in the dark with a glow in the dark golf ball with the greens, fairways and bunkers lined with glow sticks. All the members thoroughly enjoyed it with bursts of laughter heard throughout the course.
