Charity Golfers Play Blind to Drive Awareness of local Sight Loss Charity The Chase Golf Club is inviting all its members to get behind the launch of a beginners coaching course for people living with a disability, in partnership with local sight loss charity Beacon. Beacon is excited to be expanding its community sports programme into Staffordshire by launching a 6 week, Get into Golf beginners coaching course in partnership with The Chase Golf Club for people living with sight loss and other disabilities. The charity is aiming to mirror the success of the Beacon Butler golf program that has enabled disabled people from across the Black Country to take up Golf since it launch in 2015 - https://twitter.com/bbcmtd/status/974178632326434817 To help raise awareness of the accessible coaching course, four keen golfers will be playing 18 holes wearing simulation specs (which replicate sight loss conditions) at The Chase on the 20th September. The four-ball will include our very own Katrina White - Golf Pro at The Chase, Simon White - Course Manager, Stephen Terry - Staffordshire Regional Manager at Beacon and Jamie Lowman - Gas Engineer and golf enthusiast. For anyone interested in enrolling onto the 6 week coaching course, which kicks off in mid-October, free 1 hour taster sessions will be available on the following dates to give people a snapshot of what they can expect; Wednesday 25th September at midday Thursday 26th September at 6pm Saturday 5th October at 10:30am Sunday 6th October at 2:30pm There’ll be plenty going on for members on the day too, with staff and volunteers from Beacon available throughout the day in the club house. They’ll be on hand to share information about sight loss, disability sports at Beacon and they’ll be hosting mini competitions including a putting competition using virtual reality headsets which simulate sight loss and ‘Guess how many balls in the golf bag’ game with prizes for the winners. Stephen Terry, Staffordshire Regional Manager at Beacon, said: “We know many people living with sight loss and other disabilities want to take part in sports but find access to be a big barrier.
