On Tuesday 28th October the seniors played their final Inter-Club match at home to Lakeside. It all started very badly for the Seniors Captain with his first tee shot given to the farmers field, but with true fortitude he then parred the next 4 holes to take a comfortable position, with his Vice at his side finishing comfortable 2 and 1 winners. The rest of the team, however, were not as successful facing up to strong pairings with benevolent handicaps culminating in an overall team loss of 4.5 to 3.5. The final Seasons results were thus Played 18, won 13, halved 2, lost 3.
WC 13th October
The latest mixed Ladies and Seniors competition was held on 14th October for the Charity Cup (donated by past Seniors captain, Sid Hanlon). It was tight finish in a rain affected match reduced to 14 holes with 3 teams finishing on 29 points. In 3rd place was Mike Whitehouse and Eileen Hackett with Harold Beddow and Joyce Hadley worthy runners up. The winners, however, on count back after storming through the last few holes and making light of the difficult conditions was the Seniors Captain, Steve Fountain ably assisted by his playing partner Rita Miller.
A total of £93 was collected towards the Lady Captain's nominated charity, St Giles Hospice. The next competition is the Goodwill Trophy on 11th November.
The rescheduled Seniors Autumn Trophy took place on Monday 20th October under quite blustery conditions.
Results were:
- Ian Lawley nett 69
- Brian Haynes nett 70
- Larry Dreaves nett 71 after count back
