Lot’s to bring you up to date with this week, including who won the New Years Day shift in the Pro Am and Chase members winning VIP tickets to The Ryder Cup….
The PGA Pro Am held last Wednesday was again a huge success. The Pro Am showcases, not only our course, but our club as a whole to the Midland Region and yet again we were receiving nothing but praise for the continual improvements in our facilities.
I would like to thank all of the members who supported the event either by playing or helping us out on the day; the Pro Am would not run so smoothly without your efforts.
I have listed below both the Prize winners in the Professional and team competition. The more important competition between the Chase Professionals was won by Katrina who wins herself 6 Sunday morning early shifts and New Years Day, congratulations Kat.
Professional Top Three
- Richard Challenor 67
- Chris Evans 68
- Simon Lilly 68
The winning team on an incredible 20 under par were Professional Paul Broadhurst’s team.
Runners up were The Serial Pro Am prize winners, Daz Hill, Brad Hill and Matt Swift (below, left) with a very good 15 under par which looked like the winning number until the last but one team came of the course.
Third place belonged to our Operations Director Bryan’s team (above, right) one back on 14 under par. Bryan is on a roll at present with a 1st place and 3rd place in two weeks. Bryan is my team for the Brocton Hall Pro Am this Friday so fingers crossed he can keep up his form…no pressure Bryan.
In fourth place was another Chase Team, with young Dan to guide them around, Jat Singh, Dave Whitehouse and Pete Wood (right) managed a respectable 12 under par.
Once again thank you to all who helped out, supported the event and making it such a success.
Jat & Lance on their way to The Ryder Cup
2 of our members, Jat Singh and Lance Round, who qualified through our Club Championship to play in the ‘Road to the Ryder Cup’ Tournament sponsored by BMW Knights, have won the event with a better ball score of 38 points over the Open Championship Course at Royal Birkdale.
They have won VIP tickets to the Ryder Cup on Saturday 27 September, with accommodation at Cameron House the night before.
We are very lucky to have the Partnership with Knights BMW which was set up by Ops Director Bryan Davies nearly three years ago. Knights are very supportive of our member’s events with all sorts of things from cars for the weekend to sponsorship of some of our biggest tournaments. Last year our Owner Lesley won herself a trip to Royal Birkdale with our Captain Ian Schofield qualifying this year.
Lance & Jat however have gone one step further by winning The National Road to The Ryder Cup tournament at Royal Birkdale! A fantastic achievement! When you consider rounds of golf at Royal Birkdale start from £250 these are prizes of a lifetime being provided by our Partners.
The Vets Team played their final match at Greenway Hall on Thursday 14th August, having already secured the league title. The match was played in a relaxed manner, on a rather confusing course layout, which supported 7 quite distinct par threes. The home team needed to win all their remaining games to challenge for the runners up spot in the league but their hopes were dented as the Chase managed creditable defeat of 4 games to 2. This is the best result a Chase Team has managed at Greenway Hall to date, but now we know the course who knows what the forthcoming games will show?
A final league will be published in due course but a summary of our stats shows:
(Each fixture comprises games of 6 pairs with 2 points awarded for a win and 1 point for a half)
This weeks remaining activities
- Wednesday 20th Seniors Committee Meeting
- Thursday 21st interclub match away at Dartmouth.
This is at a new venue, a nine hole course with a intimidating opening 675 yard par 5, the longest in Europe. And plenty of hills
Followed by:
- Tuesday 26th Mixed Ladies and Seniors Friendship Trophy
- And the much awaited Seniors Open on Monday 1st September
Clubhouse Dress code
"I would like to bring your attention to our dress code for the clubhouse. Whilst I am a big believer in golf traditions and etiquette, I also believe that golf is evolving all the time and people’s leisure time is becoming more and more precious due to the pressures of life. We therefore relaxed our dress code a few years ago but a small minority of our members are taking it a step to far. Recently at our Pro-am, we had guests and Professionals from all over the County; the attire of some of our members was embarrassing and is not the image we want people to have of our club.
If you are not dressed appropriately please don’t be offended if you are asked to leave the clubhouse."

England Golf
"As a member of our Golf Club your handicap details are now included within the club's records on the England Golf Central Database of Handicaps (CDH).
You have automatically been allocated a unique CDH ID number by our club's handicapping software, identifying you individually on the CDH. This allows you immediate access to your exact and playing handicap online. It also means that you will no longer be required to produce a Handicap Certificate when playing in away competitions as those clubs can access your playing details through the CDH.
It is now recommended that you register your details with your CDH ID number by completing the registration process here. It will only take a few minutes, simply enter your information where prompted.
This unique CDH ID number also ensures that all your away scores are automatically routed back to our Golf Club as your home golf club, helping keep your handicap up-to-date at all times.
Importantly, after registering your CDH ID number with the Handicap and Benefits Programme, you are identified as a member of England Golf. This provides you with access to your latest handicap online plus additional benefits and discounts and automatic entry into our free prize draws.
Once registered your CDH ID number will remain with you for the time you are a golf club member. You will then have unlimited, free access to your official CONGU® Handicap as it changes during the playing season, keeping track of your progress and identifying you as a current golf club member when playing at any other golf club."
