Greetings from Matt Southwell
The Chase Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Greetings from Matt,

What a month it has been for Nike Golf and of course Rory McIlroy! Nike Golf Athlete Rory McIlroy pushed through in the final round of the USPGA Championship to win his second straight major championship and remind his competitors that he's still in control of his remarkable play. He is the first to win three straight PGA Tour events since fellow Nike athlete Tiger Woods in 2007-2008. His victory marks the second time he's won the Wanamaker trophy in three years.

The number one player in the world battled it out for the entire round. The game changer was on the 10th hole. Sitting three shots back, McIlroy hit his Nike Covert 2.0 3-wood on the par 5 to within seven feet of the hole and sank the putt for eagle with his Nike Method 006 putter.

He built a two-stroke lead with a 10-foot birdie putt at the 17th and sealed his win with a par on the 18th hole.

Rory"I've never won three times in a row. And I've never won back-to-back majors," said McIlroy. "It's a whole new experience for me doing what I've done this summer, so I'm trying to let it all sink in."

With the combination of his Nike Covert 2.0 Tour driver and his Nike RZN Black ball, McIlroy ranked first in driving distance for the third straight week, averaging 315-yard drives.

Nothing to bring you up to speed with this week as the medal on Sunday had to be called off as the weather conditions meant the entries were too low. We will be trying to reschedule another date asap.

However two results I can let you know about…. Last Thursday I took a team including Bryan Davies & Tony Luo to the Hawarden Pro am in Wales and we managed to take the spoils with a slightly embarrassing -17 and I hate to say it we left some out there too. I shot a one under par 68 coming fourth in the Pro individual.

You won't blame me for thinking I had found a bit of form ready for our very own Pro Am this week but then disaster struck! I woke up on Saturday morning to terrible pains in my arm and couldn't straighten it if I wanted too.

Luckily we have Andy Caldwell (Active Therapy) on hand here at the club who was able to see me the same day and again on Monday. I had damaged my Radial Nerve but Andy True to his word got me to the point where I could play again…. by Tuesday! Miracle worker or what….

This meant that I could partner Mr Captain, Ian Schofield, in the Golf Plan Insurance Captain Pro Challenge. We fell a few shots short with our 1 under 71 but really did enjoy the day. I will let Ian tell you how he played but all I will say is just take a look at this photo, there are a lot of tree's around Enville ; o)

It's not just golf pro's that seek the help and advice of Andy although he does see quite a few. I send as many of my pupils as possible to see Andy who in turn works with me to let me know my pupils limitations and what they are working on, whether that be repairing or improving.

Myself and Andy will be putting together an Autumn/Winter programme to help you get the most out of the off season but if you want to get a head start then book yourself in for one of Andy's golf profiling sessions. These are normally £60.00 but currently there is £10.00 any initial assessment so a great time to get started.

Find out more about all the services Andy has to offer by going to his website www.active-threapy.com or book your appointment by calling 07970110526.

PRO AM

This years Pro Am will be in full swing as the newsletter hits your inbox and it is the only time The Chase Pro's get to go head to head in the same competition, as you can imagine we all wish each other the best and we are not that competitive….. All I will say is for every shot they all beat me by is an extra Sunday morning early shift coming their way and someone is still to be rota'd on for the early on New Years Day!!

Full report next week.

Seniors Update
The Vets are Champions of Division 2 in the North Staffs League

The Vets team played on Thursday 7th at home to Greenway Hall and powered their way to a 4.5:1.5 victory (9 pts to 3pts) and are champions with still one game to play, The victory would have been even larger had our inspirational Captain not damaged his shoulder after 6/7 holes (they were 3 up at the time) which eventually resulting in the loss of their game. We wish him a speedy recovery.

All participants throughout the season have been invited along for a celebratory drink at the club on Thursday 14th August at 6.30pm (after the last game away to Greenway Hall on that date)

Leading Edge No 9 took place on Monday 11th and the results were:

Larry Dreaves 34 points
David Smialowski 34 points

Division 2

Brian Brookes 35 points
