On Tuesday 29th the Seniors interclub team were away at Calderfields who were fielding a very strong team. The Senior Captain, however, was not fazed by this and ably assisted by his favourite batman started the team off with a narrow victory. Other results were mixed and not everyone performed quite up to his high standards but nevertheless the overall result was a very creditable away draw of 4 games each.
The Vets match was on Thursday 31st July, away to Brookfield Golf Club. This proved to be a very good course to play but unfortunately the team suffered their first league defeat losing 4 games to 2 (8 points to 4). This result, however, ensures they will be promoted to league one and that they require only 6 points out of 24 points from their remaining 2 matches to guarantee winning league 2
The Lady Captain and the Seniors Captain had their mixed away day at Wharton Park Golf Club on Monday 4th August. The weather held fine for some excellent golf on a challenging undulating course.
Results were:
- Ilmar Luik + Margaret Burns. 67 pts (count back)
- Graham Bunch + Toni_Ann Bywater. 67 pts
- Lesley Simmons + Barrie Woodward. 64 pts
Lesley also won nearest the pin with the longest drives going to Fred Ainsworth for the men and Brenda Davis for the ladies
Towards the end of last week's Leading Edge we had an incident which required the attendance of a paramedic and subsequently, an ambulance, for Brian Hartley who collapsed on the 18th fairway, shortly after his tee shot.
We all hope that Brian has now fully recovered and has no serious problems.
This weeks remaining fixtures:
- Thursday 7th Vets at home to Greenway Hall
The following week:
- Monday 11th August – LE No 9
- Thursday 14th August Vets away to Greenway Hall
