The US PGA Championship

The final major championship of the year takes place this week at Quail Hollow G.C. All the bookmakers have got Rory Mcilroy as favourite to win his 5th major championship. He has started to show some form with a top 10 finish last week at Firestone. Also Rory has won at Quail Hollow before on the PGA tour when he shot a final round 62! There’s lots of talk about Open Championship winner Jordan Spieth and that he could go on to win more majors than Tiger. Is that possible??

Captains Fun Day – 05/08/17

The Club Captain, Darren Barker would like to thank all of the members that took part in the Captains Fun Day on Saturday. The day was a huge success raising over £200 for his charity. The scoring on the day was exceptional, this year’s winners were D.Ward, P.Ward, D.Moulden and S.Pritchard with a winning score of 102 points. Well done guys!

Beat the Captain on the 9th wasn’t quite the success Darren had hoped for, every player who entered and hit the green beat the Captain… He did play in the medal the following day, with no pressure on. He managed hit a great shot leaving him a 10 foot putt for birdie. All the players that beat the Captain were entered into a draw to win a 4 ball at The Forest of Arden, the winner was Geoff Weatherly.

Senior Captains Away Day

On Monday 7th August, Keith Palmer took over 40 of the Senior Section to Lilleshall Hall GC for his Captains away day. The weather was fine and the course was in good condition for the event. We were greeted with a bacon roll and coffee and come high noon Keith Palmer took to the tee along with Phil Wilson who organised the event for Keith.

After a good meal the raffle was drawn which raised £90 for the captain’s charity. The results were:

• 1st - Phil Wilson 39 points
• 2nd - Ken Hunt 37 points
• 3rd - Alan Richardson 35 points

Well done to Phil on winning the event and a big thank you to Phil from the Captain and all who attended the event for his excellent organisation.

Senior matches

Thursday 3rd August saw the Seniors visit Greenway GC for their next match. With a wet day the seniors fought hard but could not stop Greenway winning by 4.5 – 2.5. We look for better fortunes in our next match Home to Stone GC on 17th August.
