Important news

Important - handicaps-non-qualifying scores

THIS NOTICE CONTAINS IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ANYONE PLAYING AT AN AWAY CLUB IN OPEN AND OTHER COMPETITIONS AND IN ROLL-UPS OR FIDDLES ETC AT THE CHASE.

It is now a requirement that members playing in non-qualifying competitions at away clubs return their scores to the handicap committee to be used for handicap reviews. This includes both individual and team scores and applies to singles, am-ams and 4bbb rounds. Casual social golf is excluded as are foursomes, Greensomes and Texas scrambles. To comply members are asked to place a signed copy of the appropriate scorecard in the handicap box.

This card should indicate details of the course, format, tees used as well as member's names and, of course, the scores.

There is no need to complete all scores in any form of team competition, only the scores which count for the competition. However, failure to comply with this requirement is a breach of player's obligations under handicap procedures and if the committee becomes aware of such breaches it will need to consider disciplinary action against members which, following advice from England Golf is likely to include suspension of their handicap for a period. Also England Golf would like other informal competitions e.g. roll ups and fiddles etc. to return cards to the handicap committee to be taken into account at reviews. Organisers of such competitions are, therefore, asked to ensure that copies of scores are returned to a member of the handicap committee. Whilst this is not a mandatory requirement failure to do so may mean that the committee will consider taking action against all members of such groups if we become aware that e.g. members are playing off a higher handicap in club competitions than justified by their results in roll ups, fiddles etc.. We would, therefore, urge all members of such groups to ensure that organisers do make their scores available to the committee.

It would help our deliberations at review if the cards could indicate if course conditions have been unusual

E.g. temporary greens in play.
