Setup vs Impact position
A good impact position with an iron is the result of a downward blow into the back of the golf ball. With the hands ahead of the ball, you'll have a better compression of the ball against the face. This means longer, higher shots with more spin on the greens. If you try and achieve your setup position (below left) at impact with the ball this is what will happen! Look how much ahead of your hands the clubhead is! (below right)
To achieve the perfect impact position, feel as if you’re leading the downswing with the butt end of the club. Think of impact as a finish line to a race. Your left hand should come in first place, the right hand should come in second, and the club head should come in third. (pictured right)
If you let the club head win the race, you’ll fail to achieve the correct impact position.

The third Senior's Interclub match took place on Tuesday 29th April with the team away to Perton GC. The first away match proved challenging with the first pair losing despite some magnificent stroke play by the Seniors Captain. Fortunately the rest of the team rallied round to record a 4.5 to 3.5 overall victory.
The next 2 interclub matches are both at home, entertaining Stafford Castle on Thursday 8th May and Lichfield on Monday 12th May. These are followed by an away match at Lakeside on Thursday 15th May (all pertinent sheets are on the notice board)
The second North Staffs Vets match took place on Thursday 1st May at home against Blythe Bridge Golf Club. Despite bad weather threatening, the team once again played with much confidence to record a second consecutive 6 : 0 win (=12 points.) The next match, however, will be away to Blythe Bridge on 26th May and will test the advantage of home matches
Other forthcoming matches to note in your diaries include, the second Ladies/Seniors match (Sight Savers) scheduled for Tuesday 6th May and a Seniors Roll up competition on Monday 12th May replacing one of last year's LE competitions. Full details on the notice boards
