This week sees the second major of the year taking place at an extremely tough golf course near Pittsburgh. Oakmont Country club is ranked the oldest top-ranked course in America. It's known for its thick rough around the greens and frighteningly fast putting surfaces. They say that the greens at Oakmont are the fastest in the world and that the eventual winner will certainly be someone that can putt well. Someone called Jordan Speith may have a chance then. 

The course is also known for its length, with one of the par 3's playing 288 yards!! Over par for the four rounds this week I think will win the tournament, somewhere around +3.

Senior Captains Invitation Day 6th June 

The first big day of the season and what a great success it was with both members and their guests having the best day of the summer so far with high temperatures and very slick greens. The course was in magnificent condition, Simon and his team had done us proud, as the days guests all said. 

With big thanks to the ladies who helped on the day, without their tireless efforts we would not have been able to have held this competition. I would like to thank all the hole sponsors and all the senior members for their generosity for suppling so many raffle prizes. Big thank you to the bar staff for such top class service as always. The winners for each of the hole challenges are posted on seniors notice board in changing room.

Monday the 13th June saw the Seniors take on Lichfield GC at home. Despite the Captains defeat in the first match the team rallied to produce a 6.5 matches to 1.5 matches win. The threatened heavy rain held off and an enjoyable day with the normal excellent meal was had by all. 

The Senior Captain also had another win on the road, winning the Borth Open. It would seem that the captain is playing better golf away from the inter club matches where his record now stands at won 5 lost 5 his search for his next partner goes on, who if any will play with the captain next?

The Ladies & Seniors Mixed competition for the Jubilee Cup was held on Tuesday 14th June. The competition was held between some very severe storms; thankfully this did not seriously disrupt play although necessarily all bunkers were treated as GUR. Overall winners were Rita Miller and Barry Woodward with 39 points. The next mixed completion is on Tuesday 12th July for the Remembrance Trophy and entry sheets will be up on respective notice boards in the next day or two.

A reminder to all those who have put their names down for the Senior Captains away day on the 28th July 2016 at Patshull Park GC, Final payment of £26 is due by the end of June.
