Greetings from Dave,

What a great weekend for Europe with 5 English players in the top ten at The Masters. It looked like Jordan Spieth was going to run away with it. Everyone was trying to knock in birdies to create some pressure on Spieth. It must have worked as he stepped onto the 12th and hit 2 bad shots into the water. He made a seven and we had a new tournament leader. Willett then took charge, held his nerve and waited to see if Spieth could make it a playoff. It wasn't meant to be, however, and we had our second Englishman triumph at Augusta after Nick Faldo, who last won 20 years ago. Well done Danny lad!

Competition news

Penkridge Masters

The first major of the season was upon us this weekend, The Penkridge Masters.

The par 3 challenge was cancelled due to the amount of rain. Then Sunday there was a frost delay. The course was in good condition considering the amount of rain. The greens were running quick and the chase wind hit us hard, making the course very long and very tough. The first group went out and one man in particular obviously didn't find it tough at all, shooting a net 66. It was a tough day for all with only Steve Littlewood and Daryl Mason shooting under their handicap. Well done to all the winners, you can see who came where below.

First Seniors Match

The 1st Seniors Inter-club Match, vs Hilltop GC, took place on 7th April 2016. The very bad weather meant curtailing the match after 9 holes with the Chase Seniors gaining a 3.5 to 2.5 points win. Phil Wilson and Keith Palmer had an excellent win, 4 and 2. Making up for the Captain and his partner who will remain nameless, 1 hole defeat. Many thanks to those who turned out in the poor weather. Thanks to the kitchen, waiting and bar staff, for bringing the excellent meal forward at short notice.

Repair and refurb

Can Worn Grips Cause Bad Shots?

Yes. A brand new grip won't be able to improve a swing fault or poor body alignment, but they do improve the only connection point you have with your clubs. A National Survey of golfers showed that 66% of those who had their clubs re-gripped showed an average drop of 3 to 4 shots per round

This leads us to the question - When should I re-grip my clubs?

The answer is simple, once a year or every 40 Rounds. This is due to factors such as heat, oil and dirt that break down the materials that make up the grip. Frequent play, personal preference and practice may require a change of grip sooner. Once a grip becomes hard and slick there is a high chance of the golf club twisting during impact, causing a significant LOSS of direction and distance.

Nick Brunjes Will Be Attempting The 3 Peaks Challenge

"The challenge I will be attempting is climbing three of the UK's highest mountains in under 24 hours. These include Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon.

I am doing this challenge alongside several other students from Loughborough University and we will be raising money for CLIC Sargent, a wonderful charity that helps to support young people suffering from cancer.

CLIC Sargent and I would hugely appreciate any support towards this cause.

Thank you!"
